I love makeup. I tend to try a lot of makeup trends, change it up and use a LOT of products. I often get asked by people if drugstore makeup is just as good as other brands. My answer is "yes and no". Here's why...
Yesterday I attempted to bring lipstick back into my inventory of makeup. I honestly hadn't worn it since the late 90s because - well lets be honest- my boyfriend (now husband) disliked the taste of it when he kissed me. But unbeknownst to him, - or maybe its because we arent making out all the time anymore-I kept wearing lipgloss for the next 12 years.
I went to cvs to purchase a pink lipstick- without pearl or frosty undertones only to discover that wet and wild had a perfect red for 99cents. Since I'm not against drugstore makeup I was happy it wasn't $10, because I might not like it afterall.
Got in the car and immediately tried on the pink and hated it. Tried on the red and Loved it. About 15 mins later I discovered that it started to feather and bleed and up close looked like a big ol mess. I've never experienced that bleeding with other brands like MAC. Maybe its also because i didnt wear lipliner...whatever the case, This is why i like cheap and expensive makeup. I can try it and if I don't like it I don't have to commit to the $15 lipstick and if I truly like the 99cent one I just saved $14.
I have found that when you use a base or other foundational or contouring makeup it's best to shell out the bucks then you can use drugstore makeup like eyeshadows, mascara and eyeliner to perfect your face.
Bottom line is I think I'm gonna have to go buy a lip liner at the department store .... And maybe a red lipstick. I really liked the way it looked!
